Loans that Change Lives Project: Joshua
Updated: May 26, 2021

Today I want to talk to you about Joshua. Joshua is a Jibu Franchise operator who lives in Ruaka Nairobi, Kenya. This loan would help him purchase a delivery tool so he could distribute water even faster.
First I would like to tell you about Jibu. Jibu is a social enterprise tackling the drinking water and unemployment crises by training local workers to be successful social entrepreneurs with drinking water franchises.

Through their workers, they can distribute water to cities and towns with little to no clean drinking water. Joshua is part of a big group of people who want to make a change in this world.
There has been a demand for water in Ruaka for a while. Every day the demand goes up and every day there becomes more customers. With all of these new customers and bigger deliveries, he needs a faster and more efficient way of delivering water. Currently, Joshua only has one delivery tool. But with the increase of water demand, his town needs more and more water every day. If he had another way of delivering, his job would become faster and people would get water faster.
Imagine that you lived in Ruaka and you had very little clean drinking water. If no one was there to give you water, what would you do. Drinking dirty water can give you diseases that can harm your body. According to the World Health Orginization, contaminated water can transmit diseases such diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and polio. Contaminated drinking water is estimated to cause 485,000 diarrhoeal deaths each year. They estimate that by 2025, half of the world's population will be living in water-stressed areas. What Joshua is doing is saving peoples lives. One day we all might be without clean drinking water. And we will need someone like Joshua to take action and save the world.
